What is HEIC File?

High Efficiency Image Format (HEIC) files store one or more images in the HEIF format along with the metadata for each image. HEIF is Apple’s proprietary imaging format that compresses its size whilst maintaining the same quality. The HEIC imaging format was initially designed for iOS, but then later forward to macOS as well.

All images captured from devices with iOS 11 or macOS Sierra are automatically saved in the HEIF format.
