What is BMP File?

The BMP file format is used to store uncompressed image data which supports monochrome and color images in variable color depths, and the image metadata. A BMP image file is also referred to as a “bitmap image file,” “device independent bitmap (DIB) image,” and “bitmap image.” As the name suggests, it is a device-independent image, which means that it can be transferred between different devices and have no effect on the image.
