What is an XWD File?
The XWD file stores a bitmap image captured by the X Window System, like a screenshot, and supports different color depths. The image can either be of the whole screen, or of the selected window only. A .XWD file is uncompressed, hence can take significant storage space.
The X10 and X11 use different XWD formats that have slight variations. Therefore, some XWD files may not be compatible with certain image viewers.
