What is HEIF File?
The High Efficiency Image Format (HEIF) is a container-format image file based on the High Efficiency Video Compression (HEVC) codec, also known as H.265, alongside the metadata for the image. It stores an image while reducing the size of the file and maintaining the quality of the image. Although this format was introduced first for Apple’s iOS 11, they did not create it. That said, Apple’s devices with iOS 11 and higher save images in HEIF format since they take up less space while keeping a high-quality image.
A HEIF file can store both HDR and SDR images, meaning it can store images encoded with multiple coding formats.
