What is a WAV File?

The Waveform Audio File Format (WAV), as the name indicates, is used to store waveform data in the WAVE format. It offers variable sampling and bit rates and is based on the RIFF file format, which is a container format.

The WAV file format is very common and mostly used for CD audio in a 44.1 kHz, 16-bit, stereo format.
