What is a DOC File?
DOC is a popular word processing file saved or exported by Microsoft Word or another word processing tool, like OpenOffice Writer or Apple Pages. It might have page formatting, formatted text, graphics, tables, graphs, and charts, as well as print preferences.
In 1983, the DOC format was chosen as Microsoft Word’s default file type. Up to Microsoft Word 97, when Microsoft published an improved binary format, Word used the same DOC formatting. However, Microsoft then later switched to the DOCX format as the default mat when Microsoft Word 2007 was introduced, which is an open XML-formatted document.
