What is a JSON File?
A .JSON file contains plain text information which stores information to be used by applications and web servers. This is a standard format, which makes the data readable by most servers and apps. Since the information stored is in plain text format, .JSON files can be opened and edited using any text editor and are thus human-readable.
The JSON file format is commonly used in the Ajax application programming, gradually replacing the .XML file format. Although many programs employ JSON for data exchange, since the data exchange takes place across Internet-connected machines, they might not really save .JSON files on the local hard drive. Nevertheless, certain programs still allow users to save these files.
