What is an M4R File?

M4R files are normally created when converting a purchased song from iTunes into a ringtone. M4R files only support mono audio, which is why they are small in size. When an iPhone is linked with a computer using Apple iTunes, M4R files are immediately downloaded to the device.

M4R files can also be generated with a variety of other third-party apps and online resources. Most likely, M4R files made outside of iTunes do not have copyright protection.
